From January 7th to February 3rd 2024, a Pediatric Surgery mission was held at S. Maria Sick Assistance Center. The mission was led by Dr.Carmine Del Rossi (surgeon) and it was composed by Dr. Fabio Beretta (surgeon), Dr. Piero Giovanni Romano (surgeon), Dr. Laura Lombardi (surgeon), Dr. Giovanni Casadio (surgeon), Dr. Vincenzo Domenichelli (surgeon), Dr. Andrea Zulli (surgeon), Dr. Gabriella Pelusi (surgeon), Dr. Sergio Vescovi (anesthesiologist), Dr. Silvia Bianchi (anesthesiologist), Dr. Marco Di Lecce (anesthesiologist), Dr. Riccardo Zanoni (anesthesiologist), Dr. Antonio Giorgio Scarpa (Pediatrician), Enrica Lugano, Mirella Spalluto, Katia Ugoletti, Angela Scalogna, Inama Guia (scrub nurses), and by Simona Fontechiari, Isabella Raboini, Claudio Statti, Buirma Malo (ward nurses).

This was the 29th mission in Khulna. The continuity of the pediatric surgery missions has given enormous credibility to this Italian team, especially in the field of treatment of vaginal atresia, anorectal malformation, hypospadias, adrenogenital syndrome, exstrophy-epispady complex, urethral trauma. During this period 162 surgical procedures were performed and they can be divided into the following categories:

Most of the procedures were done in blended or spinal anesthesia. An outpatient clinic was held daily for pre-operative and post-operative control of patients with a total number of 360 patients evaluated and 640 patients seen for pediatric and ultrasonographic evaluation.

The excellent results of this surgical team and the impact within the population, especially among the poor people of Bangladesh, call for the continuity of such missions.
